This project is part of a comprehensive five-year program focused on the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda under the Italian National Action Plan. Its core theme centers on the protection pillar, aiming to raise awareness in Nineveh about combating hate speech and identifying early indicators of violent extremism. The initiative emphasizes the critical role of women in fostering peace and addressing root causes of conflict to build more resilient and inclusive communities.
The project is implemented in partnership with Un Ponte Per (UPP) and is funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with collaboration from several NGOs across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Together, these organizations strive to promote the principles of the WPS agenda, focusing on enhancing women’s roles in peacebuilding and protecting communities from escalating violence.
A key component of this project is its international advocacy efforts. It supports an Advocacy Week held in Brussels, where participating organizations engage with key stakeholders in the European Union and the European Peacebuilding Liaison Office (EPLO). These meetings aim to strengthen cooperation, share regional insights, and align global efforts to build sustainable peace in conflict-affected regions, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa.
To conclude the program, a final conference was held in Rome, providing a platform to showcase the collective achievements of the partner organizations. The event highlighted the progress made in implementing the Women, Peace, and Security agenda, as well as the innovative peacebuilding strategies deployed in various regions. The conference, attended by representatives of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to celebrate the partners’ efforts and underscore Italy’s commitment to fostering peace and security globally.
This initiative not only amplifies local voices on international platforms but also reinforces the importance of addressing systemic challenges, including hate speech and violent extremism, through a gender-sensitive and collaborative approach.
