As part of the “Strengthening Community Resilience and Protection of Human Rights in Sinjar and West Nineveh” project, Youth Bridge Organization conducted four comprehensive workshops for women in Sinjar and Til-Qasab. These workshops were designed to raise awareness about women’s basic rights and equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to advocate for gender equality within the framework of the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda and its four key pillars: participation, protection, prevention, and relief and recovery.

The workshops provided a safe and inclusive space where women from diverse backgrounds could openly discuss their experiences, challenges, and aspirations. Through interactive sessions, participants learned about national and international frameworks that protect women’s rights, including the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 and Iraq’s National Action Plan on WPS.

In addition to theoretical knowledge, the sessions included practical skill-building activities, such as communication techniques, advocacy strategies, and leadership training. These skills are essential for enabling women to take on active roles within their communities, advocate for policy changes, and promote gender-responsive governance.

Moreover, the workshops aimed to address the specific challenges faced by women in conflict-affected areas like Sinjar, including overcoming societal stigma, rebuilding their lives post-displacement, and tackling barriers to participation in decision-making processes. Participants were encouraged to collaborate on action plans to address gender inequality in their communities and were provided with resources to continue their advocacy work after the workshops concluded.

This initiative is part of Youth Bridge Organization’s broader commitment to women’s empowerment, ensuring that women not only understand their rights but also have the tools and confidence to become key agents of change in building resilient and inclusive societies. These workshops mark a significant step toward amplifying women’s voices in peace-building and fostering sustainable development in Sinjar and West Nineveh.
